I've spent the last 7 years of my life learning how to run a business here on the Big Island- no small feat, I promise you. Hawaii presents it's own unique challenges for every occupation, and running a small business here is incredibly difficult. The elevated cost of almost everything, difficult employment laws and intense shipping costs on everything make running a small business here a real gauntlet.
Let me tell you, there are no handbooks on 'How to run a cleaning business in Hawaii'- it was a very trial and error kind of thing. I made many, many mistakes. What kept us alive was our ability to change- to look at a problem not as if it were a reflection in a mirror, but an object on a table. Constant change- if something didn't work, we changed it. My wife and I struggled through those first few years- but we never gave up. We knew the potential was there, and we knew we could tap into it.
And we did! 7 years later, the cleaning company pays all our bills and has allowed me to branch out into other things. I've wanted to become a Real Estate agent for years now, but the timing was never right. I knew it would consume all my time and energy, and that I didn't want to go into it if I had to do it part time. I also knew that I needed a way to support myself while I'm learning the ropes. Well it turns out 2017 is the year I go active.
It's going to be bitter sweet leaving Impact Cleaning Hawaii in my wife's hands, but I'm proud to have been there to build it up, and I value the lessons I've learned over the years. I take what I've learned to the next level! Can't wait to see what's ahead.
